Hay Perro on Suicide Girls

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

…and no one had to disrobe!

Rock industry guru Martin Atkins has a column on the Suicide Girls web site where he answers questions from bands on how to handle the business aspects of being a band. In this column, he acknowledges us by name and takes some of our questions. This is mostly only exciting to people in the band, but we couldn’t not point out Hay Perro’s presence on a softcore porn web site.

Five Pictures from Wicker Park

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

After much advertising on this and other web sites, we played at the Note this past Friday. Ben brought a camera.

This is Emily at Underdogg before the show. Less than five minutes after this picture was taken, she ate a corn dog.

This is a picture from our set. It was not taken during our cover of “Burnin’ for You.”

These are the Venom Lords. We love them because they know rock.

These are two and a half of the Melismatics. They are clearly quite apt at posing for candid photos.

This is Matt. He took the picture of us above. He also plays guitar in Yarn.

Wellness update

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Thanks to the fine people at Resurrection Health Center, Emily’s troublesome gallbladder is a thing of the past.

Thanks to the equally fine people at GuitarWorks, the unreliable toggle switch on Chris’s guitar is also a distant memory.

As such, HP has switched from “break” mode to “full throttle rock” mode. We will be proving this at the Note on the 25th.

Ronny’s show cancelled, HP now short one gallbladder

Monday, April 16th, 2007

We are sad to report that the Ronny’s show next weekend has been cancelled. Emily went to the hospital the other day and it turned out that her gallbladder needed to be removed. Wish her a speedy recovery.

The Note w/ the Venom Lords, the Melismatics, Troy Gregory & the Stepsisters

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

We’ll be playing with our new pals the Venom Lords, Troy Gregory and the Stepsisters, and the Melismatics at the Note on Friday, May 25.

The Note is in Wicker Park at 1565 N. Milwaukee.

The Finest Garage in Logan Square

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

This Friday, we played at Ronny’s Bar. As the first show since the completion of “A Stepper’s Affair,” this loosely functioned as our record release show. Rock

The evening was an unqualified success. Our new friends The Venom Lords were delightful on both a personal and musical level, The Whole Fantastic World stretched pop music to its limits, and the more than slightly charismatic power pop of The Singles closed the night with a fervor.

Our performance also went well. We played one new song (“The Davenport Special”) and closed with the five songs from “A Stepper’s Affair.” The audience was generous in both size and support, making it one of our most enjoyable sets to date.
Thanks to all who came out (particularly everyone who was seeing us for the first time) and the other three bands for making it such a fine evening.

“A Stepper’s Affair”

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

…is the name of our debut EP. The cover looks like this. The tracklisting is as listed in the previous post.

Two mp3s can be downloaded from the Audio page, also linked on the sidebar. We will have the CDs for sale at Ronny’s tomorrow.

Recording

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

We recently spent a couple of weekends recording our debut EP with the Daniel Agosto. Since recording journals are seldom exciting, we will simply say that Dan was fantastically helpful, Brian’s solo on “Black Hat Preacher” is utterly face-melting, and we are very excited with the results. The disc’s tracklisting will be as follows:

recording2

1. Come on Comrade
2. Black Hat Preacher
3. Lacking Savoir Faire
4. Have You the Touch?
5. Put a Dollar in My Mouth

Barring any last-minute production snafus, the disc will be available at the below-mentioned Ronny’s show.

Ronny’s Bar

We’re playing at Ronny’s Bar on Friday, March 30.

We will be joined by The Singles, The Venom Lords, and The Whole Fantastic World.

The show begins at 9:00. Ronny’s is located at 2103 N. California.

Red Line Tap, in Summary

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

For quite some time, Hay Perro superfan and Black Beach co-frontman Justin Sovereign has been encouraging us to book a show together at the Red Line Tap. Last night, that request was made a reality.

While not the most technically proficient show we’ve ever played, it was a great deal of fun. We debuted one new song (“Black Hat Preacher”) and added another cover song to the HP lore (Cheap Trick’s “Surrender.”) PVH seemed pretty into it.

Many thanks to everyone who disregarded the sub-zero temperatures and came out to join us. Thanks also to the Red Line Tap for being a cordial host and providing us with half-price dinners.

The perpetually cooperative Daniel Q. Julius took some pictures:
